The threat of wildfires in California is real and growing. With one-quarter of SCE’s service area in high-risk fire areas, keeping our communities safe by preventing wildfires is a top priority.
One critical tool we use to prevent wildfires is the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), in which we may temporarily shut off power to your neighborhood during dangerous weather conditions to prevent our electric system from becoming a source of ignition. These safety shutoffs are a measure of last resort for keeping you and your community safe.
SCE’s Accessible Hazard Alert System (AHAS) website offers PSPS notifications and preparedness information in accessible formats for people who are Blind or Low Vision, Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing, or Deaf-Blind.
We partner with the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC) to support customers with disabilities, and other access and functional needs (AFN) through the Disability Disaster Access and Resources (DDAR) Program. DDAR will provide support to customers with disabilities or other AFN before, during and after a PSPS outage.
We are committed to helping households be ready for a Public Safety Power Shutoff. To help prepare for outages, we offer generator and battery rebates. This support is available for customers who are:
